Artichokes
The first time I ever saw artichoke plants was with Rich as we drove to Monterey through Castroville in the late 1970's. Those plants were not meant for flowers, but harvested for yummy eating.
In my garden I have a new appreciation for this prickly thistle. Harvesting one artichoke lead me to let the other two blooms proceed to blossom.
